looking ahead: SS25 TrendS

Another Fashion month is in the books. As per usual, the City of Lights did not disappoint, and so many of the collections were nothing short of dazzling. The brightest highlight for me proved to be the delightful juxtaposition of cutting-edge collections that pushed the boundaries of expectations and the time-honored, classic elegance that one always expects from Paris. Through the catwalk cacophony, several trends emerged that I am confident will grace the city streets - as well as my clients’ closets. Whether you’re a die-hard trendsetter or looking to make a fashion-forward update, this Fashion month has you covered.

VINTAGE VIBES

The fashion community is flipping over the overt nod to the Roaring 20’s seen at Fendi. In celebration of the house’s 100 year anniversary, the Fendi show payed homage to founders Adele & Edoardo and its roots as Rome’s premier boutique shopping destination in the 1920’s. The ornate flapper dresses indicative of the period got a modern makeover with the use of transparent fabrics, rugged combat boots, and unexpected layering.

The throwbacks didn’t end there, however. Iconic references from the past met with contemporary sensibilities with the inclusion of bows, crochet, and feathers. All throughout the week there were winks and nods to definitive decades - such as homages to vintage 1930’s and the retro-futuristic 60’s. Chemena Kamali at Chloe made a triumphant return to her signature boho chic vibe with a feminine take on retro reinvigorated. At the Schiaparelli show, Daniel Roseberry showcased his timeless “Future Vintage” concept that could effortlessly be worn by your daughter or grandmother. These Mondrian-inspired pieces were equally dramatic and accessible.

STATE OF UNDRESS

Skin was in for Spring / Summer 2025! From unabashed transparency to tightly cropped silhouettes, these looks fully celebrated the female form while still remaining restrained and tasteful. Tiny tops, barely-there bottoms, and illusory fabrics all defined this ubiquitous trend. These dramatic statements were often softened with the addition of airy overlays, embroidered detailing, or playful ruffles. I’m obsessed with the concept of female empowerment being completely redefined as stately suiting is swapped out for romantic lingerie and vintage-inspired undergarments.

DAPPER DOLLS

In stark contrast to the nearly-naked trend, we also saw the return of structured menswear to the runways. These semi-androgynous takes on power suits absolutely dominated the collections of Saint Laurent and Balenciaga. Relaxed tailoring, oversized jackets, geometric shoulders, and dapper ties all made an appearance.

There were also fun, surprising plays on proportion which made the collections feel much more modern than their 80’s counterparts. The more severe looks were tapered by an array of A-line sets, tunic dresses, car coats, and tennis polos. With the multitude of silhouettes available in these menswear archetypes, I know there will be pieces that will suit every body type.

UNSEASONABLE LEATHER

Leather came early this year, and I could not be more excited. I have been a staunch proponent of incorporating quality, long-lasting materials into one’s wardrobe and I love that we now have so many new leather options for Spring / Summer! The rugged fabric received an effervescent update with pretty pastels, breezy silhouettes, and casual effortlessness. From full-length dresses to tailored sets to perfectly paired jackets, leather offers much to incorporate. The trend also boast so much range with runways showcasing everything from stark futuristic to unapologetic maximalism. The looks also allow one to play with the juxtaposition of hard / soft - for instance, pairing a structured leather vest with voluminous boho ruffles.

While all these trends can seem overwhelming, it all comes back to tailoring a look to fit you and your lifestyle. It could be as simple as investing in a statement jacket or trying an updated silhouette. Fashion is fun, after all, and I am pleased to inform you that there will be a lot to play with coming up. C’est si bon!
