NYFW Rundown: Where We’ve Been & Where We’re Going

In celebration of the start of Fashion Month, revving up right here for NYFW, I’d like to break down some of the current and up-coming trends that I find most exciting.

Boho is here to stay.

I was instantly struck by the 2024 Fall Chloe collection and correctly predicted it to be one of the “it” runways of the season. Newly appointed creative director Chemena Kamali is truly the embodiment of this singular brand that carefully curates styles FOR women BY women. Reviews noted that the styles evoked a “potent mix of both softness (not to be taken in any way for weakness) and strength.” I could not agree more. This inspired, fresh take on the power of femininity is no shrinking violet. With its bold 70’s aesthetic, tiered ruffles, double layering, and understated beauty, Chloe is giving me the green light to embrace my sensuality and power. This collection felt like a homecoming in so many ways: not just because of its reverential nod to the collections of yesteryear (ankle breaking platform wedges that call back the early aughts, I’ll take the chance… again), but also as a return to a more joyous time in both fashion and life.

Chloe Fall 2024 was also a breath of fresh air in the sense that it marked a return to identifiable trends. The unprecedented and trying times that are, thankfully, in our past, led to a lot conceptually being thrown at the wall. And because of the lack of substance, unfortunately, not a lot stuck. There was very little perspective and a lot of noise. Now that there seems to be a bit more intention in the trends, there’s a lot more justification in the investment of pieces. There is so much more focused direction with designs and more choice there within. So if you’ve been wanting to make that investment or update, now is the perfect time. (And if you are unsure, I happen to know a fabulous stylist that can help you navigate.)

Finally putting a Spring in my step.

I’m going to come out and say it: I’m never as excited for Spring collections as I am for Fall. This year, however, marks the return of the butterflies of anticipation that have been sorely missed in past years. I’m starting to see the buds of promise that were sown in the ingenuity of these past fall trends. I was particularly impressed with Proenza Schouler’s show. While the collection wasn’t entirely groundbreaking, it did ultimately feel fresh and edgy. I was also pleased to see that certain trends had carried over between seasons - particularly scarlet hued accents and (my favorite!!!) fringe. The chic, trendy pieces in which I thoughtfully invested are very much still relevant.
